Quilters: The Kids Who Loved Colouring Inside the Lines

I have a theory - and I say this with all the love in the world, that most quilters were definitely the kids who were obsessed with colouring inside the lines. You know the ones: careful, focused, choosing their colours with intention, maybe even shading for effect. While the rest of the class was scribbling, we were quietly filling in our rainbows, making sure not a single crayon mark escaped the border.

And now? We’ve swapped our colouring books for fabric stacks, and our pencils for rotary cutters. Quilting is just colouring inside the lines... with thread. Each patchwork block is a little work of art where colour placement matters, lines need to match, and there’s that same quiet satisfaction in staying just within the seam allowance.

Of course, quilting lets us bend the rules when we want to, but there’s something deeply comforting about the structure, the planning, and the creative play that still has a frame. It’s art with order. Chaos with a cutting mat.

So if you ever loved a crisp new pack of markers and a fresh colouring book, welcome - you’re among your people..
